WhatsApp UoN Statisticians

When Omachi decided that day tukisoma mimi, yeye na Arnold A.D.D that he wanted to start a Statistics students group on WhatsApp, none of us three could have predicted the popularity, laughs and sheer controversy that the group would generate. If you doubt me, just ask the Actuarial students that have deserted their group and fled to ours…right Damian, Tov, Tollo e.t.c???

From the original 3 members (Arnold, Brian and yours truly) to a 30 member grouping that is every bit as confrontational as it is amusing. Scandal after scandal erupting with the odd mix of humor, pure exaggerations, tensions (Geoff vs Kigen round 1,2, 3 and so on), this group has made what would have otherwise been just another class become that much closer as friends :-D.

The best thing about this group is its humor…or is it sarcasm…maybe both!! The subtle digs at Arnold and Omachi, the outlandish claims made regularly by Damian and Kigen, the mini wars that spark all over the place, what more could a group ask for? And lest we forget, the romances: MOU, Lugen, Damivian and Geocky just to name but a few.

Hmmmm….what to say about the members? Well…

Arnold – Good guy, great friend. Somehow can’t seem to stay out of the way of most issues in this group . Ama is it that people are picking on you?

Geoff – Tech guru…can do almost anything with a computer. His battles with Kigen, the stuff of legend. Long may it continue.

Kigen – The archives and heartbeat of our group. Truly, this guy has more information on all of us than we know. It really is frightening. Makes the club tick! Good job bro.

Lucy – The sane voice of the group. Always there to bring order when things get out of hand. She offers up great advice too…has helped out more than a few of us.

Maggie – Brings a smile to many of our faces with her witty comments and banter.

Omachi – Enyewe pole msee…hii group nayo haijakufuga! But then again, it’s when they stop talking about you that you should be concerned. Take heart, Chairman.

Damian – Resident noise maker of the group. Every group needs one. Keeps coming up with these facts, some really interesting and some just hard to believe. Uendelee vivyo hivyo

Ouma – Our club’s publicist (what does a publicist do, anyway?) Good guy, liked by all, especially the ladies…

Tov – The multilingual expert of the group ( German, Spanish…you name it). Or maybe just a Google translate expert…guess I’ll never know! Surprisingly good in legal matters too.

Tollo – An apology bro. Temporary insanity that…wise one of the group. Good poltical analyst, great blogger too. Check out his pieces on  tollovictor.wordpress.com

Then there are the silent ones who pop up once in a while…Angie, Muraya, Bena, Phyllis, Anto. Your comments are always appreciated.

You will notice there is one person I haven’t described, me! I don’t know how to! Feel free to do so for me in the comments section.

I did not write this to attack anyone or make anyone angry at me. If any of you feel as such, you know where to find me. Let’s talk it out.

Other than that, guys, this is the only truly cross-network medium that all of us can use to communicate and share information. Let’s treasure it for the valuable medium it is. The only place we can go from here is up. Let’s make this group bigger, better and more controversial in 2013.

Any comments, suggestions, complaints and approvals, the comments section awaits your input.

Hope you all had a wonderful 2012.

Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

BRING ON 2013

My top 2012 Arsenal moments

When it comes to Arsenal, you experience it all. Intense joy, heartbreaking sorrow, moments that make you believe the world is yours and then moments that make you wonder why not just give up and throw in the towel. 2012 has had such moments, and here are my top moments of 2012

The King is back

For just six short weeks, Arsenal was home once again to its greatest player, Thierry Henry. And what a magical six weeks. From the peach of a goal he scored against Leeds to his last kick goal that won us the game against Sunderland, it truly was a reunion to remember.

The RVP show

Whatever my sentiments are of him now, there is no denying that Van Persie gave us fans a 2012 to remember. Goal after goal after scintillating goal, of all shapes and sizes, using every part of his body available, inlcuding this masterpiece. 2012 truly was the Robin van Persie show at Arsenal.

Arsenal  5-2 Tottenham (twice)

Image

Five goals! Yes, that’s right. Five goals against the arch enemy. And not once, but twice!!! As long as I live, I may never experience this much joy in consecutive North London derbies as I did this year. Thank you 2012.

The almost miracle against Milan

Well what more can I say about this game that wasn’t said here? A truly legendary performance by the Arsenal team!

Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

When the Citizens arrived at the Emirates in April 2012, no one gave the Gunners a chance. That is why this game was such a blinder to Arsenal fans. Balotelli’s theatrics set the tone for a game that was beautifully decided by this stunning Arteta strike.

Gibbs 25m tackle

Kieran Gibbs tackle to deny Billy Jones an almost certain goal may just have clinched Champions league football for the Gunners.  Theo Walcott said this “I have to give credit to Kieran Gibbs. The boss has always said, ‘you have to be ready when you come off the bench’ and Gibbs made probably made the most important tackle of his career so far.”

The signing of Santi Cazorla

The Spanish playmaker is clever on the ball, with a cute first touch and a remarkable ability to link play and dictate the tempo of the game, the sort of artist that the Emirates has come to so greatly appreciate. And for just £12 million he was an absolute steal Image. Favorite moment definitely being his hat-trick masterclass against Reading

 Jack is back

Image

He made his long awaited return to the team after 17 months out and since then Jack Wilshere hasn’t looked back. Barnstorming perfomances in the centre of the pack with Arteta and Cazorla have given Arsenal fans no shortage of delight. Welcome back, Jack.

Seventh heaven at Newcastle and Blackburn

This was sublime attacking football at its best as Arsenal put first Blackburn and then Newcastle to the sword at the Emirates. Smart passing, sublime attacking and ruthless fininshing were the order of the day. And in the case of Newcastle, what a way for the Gunners to say goodbye to the year 2012.

These are my top Arsenal moments of 2012. If you have any you feel I may have missed please leave a comment. It will be highly appreciated.

Love this post….hahahahaha

BackPageBanter

Did the fact Arsenal didn’t have a game this Boxing Day mean I ate more? Perhaps. Was that a bad thing? Not really, and despite not one of the results going our way, I was frankly too full and merry to care. It was a shame to have our Boxing Day fixture postponed AGAIN, but after watching some of the slog fests that went on between other teams, I have to say I am grateful for the little extra rest we received. If Wenger hasn’t told his players to get at Newcastle from the very start then I must be a better Football Manager ‘manager’ than I thought! They are sure to be a side exhausted, deflated and perhaps even a little jet lagged (we can hope!) after 90 minutes at Old Trafford and another away trip, so there can be no excuses from Le Boss or his boys come…

2012: The year that was

First things first, it is December 28th, 7 days after the world was supposed to end. I am still alive, so thank God that the Mayan calendar was so wrong. Just goes to show that nobody really does know when the world will end. On that note, I guess we should resign the movie 2012 to comedy now, something we get to laugh about as we grow older.

2012. I seriously do not know whether I am glad or saddened to see you go. I had some really good times this year and then there were the hard times. There are parts of you I really want to forget, and some that I wish I could hold on to for life. Anyways, I guess that is life.

I would be remiss to talk about the year I had and not salute one of the best men I have ever known. To George Wachira, thank you for the great memories that you gave us all as a family. I am grateful for all the days that I got to know you. Wherever you are, I pray and hope that you are in peace. You will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace Wachira.

A lot has happened this year. Who can forget James Bond and the Queen jumping out of a helicopter during the Olympic opening ceremony? Or David Rudisha’s record breaking 800m Olympic run? Of course there was the entire ‘End of the world’ hullabaloo. President Obama gained a second term in office, against most people’s expectations. And here locally, Al-Shabaab was finally toppled by the brave efforts of the Kenya Defense Forces.

Then there was the roller coaster season that is Arsenal. With all the stress and tension that I passed through as a Gunner this year, it is a small wonder that I have not gotten a heart attack this year. Although if Arsenal keep producing results like this one Image then all will be forgiven in that moment of joy, delirium and pure bedlam.

School. Exams. The bane of my existence. This year I have done exams that make the feared high school exams look like child’s play. Though even that was handsomely compensated for by a four month holiday in which I did…errrr….well…nothing to be honest! If you want to know how to pass four months and not remember a single thing you did, you know where to find me. This year, I also managed to learn Spanish. Es realidad un idioma muy bella. Aprendiendo espanol fue uno de las decisiónes mejores de mi vida. You should try it out and see if you don’t love it as much as I did.

I also got to be a groomsman at a wedding for the first time and for that i have to thank Grace Semones and Steve Semones for the honor. it truly was a pleasure, the event itself spectacular.

On the entertainment front, this has been a year of awesome movies. The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spiderman, The Hunger Games…but damn, if you haven’t watched The Hobbit, you do not know what you are missing out on. Then again, maybe I am a biased Lord of The Rings fanatic. Musically, it’s been more of the same with more great racks released this year especially in my favored genre of rock with my favorite this year being Maroon 5-One More Night.

One billion people galloped into internet history in 2012 when PSY’s Gangnam Style hit one billion plus views on YouTube. That means one in every seven people in the planet has seen the video…wow!!! If you haven’t seen it yet, then watch it here. And if you hate it, sorry but one billion people would beg to differ.

Special thanks to my family for making the year as amazing as always. Love you guys. Emma, thank you for your gift and for being my best friend, you rock! Arnold & George, 2013 let it be more like 2012.  Aseda, the inspiration to this blog. Mercy, more of the same, please. Maggie, 2012 rocked :-D. Libby, on and on with the Twitter wars :-). Lucy, I know 2013 will bring you better tidings than 2012. Lauren, exceptional pool guru, amazing girl, hope for even better in 2013. All my classmates and pals, thank you for making 2012 awesome. And for the noisemakers in our WhatsApp group, let’s go on with that spirit. Hope for more of the same in 2013. And to Erica, I hope that Canada isn’t getting too lonely for you. Miss you. Come back soon.

2012, it is time for us to part. As I head off into 2013, I do it with the hope that good tidings and success await me next year.

ADIOS 2012.

BIENVENIDO A 2013.

FELIZ AÑO NUEVO

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Best movie I watched in 2012…cannot wait for the sequel

A Constant Visual Feast

The-Hobbit-Part-1-An-Unexpected-Journey-2012-Movie-Poster-e1348339281255

This all seems awfully familiar: it’s December, and a big-scale fantasy epic based on one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s essential landmark novels has been adapted to the screen by the man who directed Dead Alive. Forget that we’re trekking back to Middle Earth, the arrival of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is itself a return to a status quo that’s over a decade old. If you’re the most casual Lord of the Rings, outraged over the expansion of a single book into three films, or someone who’s just burnt out on the series, the odyssey back to the realm of hobbits, dwarves, and elves may be one you’d like to skip, but for the diehards The Hobbit is a delight, a breezy, airy, charming, magical jaunt through one of cinema’s most iconic fantasy worlds. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM

Mom, your birthday it means the world to me. I celebrate it cause it means I got to spend another year with you. My life is a testament to your kindness, your caring heart, your unwavering belief in me and my sisters, and above all your selfless love.

On your birthday, I celebrate the best thing about my life: having you as my mother.

Thank you for being the best mother I could ever ask for!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM.

Welcome

Hi there. I am a student at The University of Nairobi. I have two lovely sisters, a dog and three cats (and no, I am not the crazy cat person). I like listening to music, sports, watching movies and hanging out with friends. An Arsenal fan for life, that’s me.

I blog about the current issues affecting my life and those of my family and friends around me. Oh and also about Arsenal Football Club, my one true obsession…
